rock and roll, the sixties, pirates, british accents, can it get any better? haha, this film looks so good! I really enjoyed it tonight, it made me smile, it made my heart beat and made me again regret I wasn't born for the summer of love.
Tax Refund
We got our California Tax Refund today.. love getting unexpected deposits in my checking account. And I'm surprised I got it so quickly with the state budget being an issue. But I'm not complaining. This money will go towards are new fence around our property.

i cannot think of a more unfulfilling thing to spend my money on.
registration, insurance, safety and emissions inspection, transmission flush, tires, windshield replacement, oil changes... all of it! money down the drain in my mind.

so. it's time to register the car. today's the last day of the month and i'm running a little behind schedule. my check engine light is on... but i've never been too concerned with it because i know why it's on and it's all a fake. but it won't pass emissions with a check engine light.
the guy at the place tells me what to do, but all of it requires a handful of inconvenient errands {so i can save a few bucks}. didn't he know i'm not always in it to save a few bucks? i'm in it to finish it.
when i whine about it to the men in my life, they don't understand my disdain for auto maintenance. they see what i should see... but i don't. while i see dollar signs that could be better spent on something that makes me look good or smell nice - something tissue wrapped in an anthropologie bag, they see worthy dollar signs thrown in a plastic bag, something greasy and oily that require time spent on the cold concrete of my garage floor.

V - Returns
Whoo hooo.. after a three month hiatus, the re-imagined "V" on ABC has returned. This is episode 5 and I think they story is moving along. I was excited to see it come back. I'm a HUGE fan of the original and I have to keep myself from comparing the two as they are very different. I'm enjoying the new V but not loving it yet.. I especially enjoyed the final scene with Anna showing her true self. Need to see more of that.

i was friends with a boy named mike once. he was the perfect mix of business man schmuck and like, totally great. attractive. two 401{k}'s for sure. and an all star mormon {he was even balding nicely for a twentysomething}.
best of all, he loved my cooking. especially my banana bread.
after we graduated, he went on his way to be a killer successful commercial real estate guy in palo alto and i landed in slc. we stayed in touch every now and then. but then there was this one time... when lamenting about his unsuccessful dating life {little did he know, there was a house full of 10 girls who would have had him in a second}, he said to me:
"oh, aubry. if i could find a girl who made banana bread as well as you, i'd marry her in a heart beat."
i hung up on him.
A Complaint Free World
you're going to love this. i promise!
so at our school, we have started a new initiative as part of our character education. by the end of the week, all of the students at CIS will officially be part of an attempt to make a Complaint Free World.
how it works. everyone, teachers and students, gets a purple bracelet (like the liveSTRONG bracelets), and if you complain, you have to move the bracelet to your other arm and start over. The goal is to keep the bracelet on the same arm for 21 days - that's NO COMPLAINING for 21 days!!! scientists believe that it takes 21 days to make something a habit, so after 21 days you will have established a habit of being complaint free!
i think it's a great idea and a big challenge for teachers - maybe even more than the students!! however, i've read some reviews from schools that have tried it and they all comment on what a positive change this program has made in their schools.
so, we started on monday. my bracelet has moved everyday. i'm going to keep trying though. someday i hope to blog about my 21 days of being complaint free!!! and i'm working on my SK's. "that's complaining!" we'll get there. just think of it... a complaint free classroom!

Glorious revolution
So, it looks like we're finally getting to the fun part of opening a new shop (decorating, finishing touches) and now, of course, we have to leave it.
Typical.
Not that we don't wanna go to Japan, we always do, it's just that the timing is a little off this time.
Fun stuff aside, we have unfinished business with our previous landlords, autoclave repairs, bills bills bills...
Actually, you know what, maybe the timing is just right!
The shop will still be here in May and decorating will be just as fun in a month as it is now.
Last night we took apart the couch and assembled it again in it's new, permanent spot
Our fancy new GLORIOUS wallpaper... and a birdcage
Oh, it's gonna be so magical and we can't wait to show y'all, but wait we must.
Sigh.
