paint splatter and brush strokes - tattoos !?

*

Tattoos by Amanda Wachob  -  'she has been pushing the boundaries of the tattoo medium in order to blur the line between fine art and body art'
I can't really decide if I like them or not... I mean I think her technique is amazing but it still looks like you've just got out of  a Jackson Pollock painting session :)

art for action

on may 31, our school will be holding the first annual "art for action" art exhibition. it is a project that i started last year at my school in egypt and with the help of the wonderful kathleen and many others, it was a wonderful success. we raised tons of money for the childrens cancer hospital in cairo. so of course, i want to try it here. ill let you know how it goes....

so the reason for this post?? to tell you about my weekend...glue, glue, glue, cut, cut, cut, glue, glue, glue! i have been matting the art that i have so far and it is taking a long time! yeesh! but, the show must go on!

oh and don't worry - i took a break to go get a pedicure and manicure :)

arts and crafts

have you ever had one of those moments where you're like, "that is such a great idea!". and then you follow through with the plan and you're like, "what was i thinking?!". i had one of those moments today.

we are studying SPACE in class - my favourite unit - and we are learning about constellations. so i decided it would be a great idea to use white paint to make a splatter painting on white paper and then when it dries, we can connect the stars to make constellations.

so the stars look great, but the room - not so much! the table and floor are covered and so is ms. emily's dress!

but we had fun!! :) i'll let you know how the constellations look when we're done!

device extraordinaire

'Growing relentlessly in the mind of Eric Freitas lies a realm of dark mechanical curiosities and horological contradictions. In this world gears are harvested and mechanisms are alive with the organic repetitions of nature's machine. Balancing carefully between creative conception and logical execution, this world would slowly be brought to life. In 2004 Eric began to study the dying craft of clockmaking so that his ideas could be executed, and it would become apparent that even an instrument as logical and precise as a clock could be compromised by ungoverned subconscious thought.' artist's website

I really love this beautiful designs...and the contrast between time and art that defies time, logical mechanisms and
whimsical obsessions. Eric Freitas' strange, abstract expressionist drawings are also very popular as tattoos. And if anyone interested in grabbing some free wallpapers with clockwork details you can find some here.

enjoy!

Botanical brooches by David Neale. He's challenging himself to say something unique and new in making jewelry inspired by plants. I think he does.
he doesn't just copy from nature, he understands natural structures, he decomposes and recomposes them into beautiful pieces like these. I love the way the forms overlap just like petals, the colors...it's definitely something i would love as a present... :P

Most Curious by Tracey Neuls and Nina Saunders

*
London shoe designer Tracey Neuls and Danish artist Nina Saunders have collaborated to create an installation using fabrics by British textile brand Sanderson at Neuls’ London shop.

Called Most Curious, the installation features a large scale sculpture from Nina Saunders and a dedicated collection of shoes from Tracey, both employing reissued vintage Sanderson textiles.

Shoes, textile and sculptural form come together in a beautiful classic/avant-garde story and i love it !

what the world doesn't know by Tran Nguyen

I like this piece so much. It's so soft and delicate and it speaks to me in so many ways
I'm glad i discovered Tran Nguyen's work. Not only her technique is amazing but she has quite original ideas...

And I'm saying this because... sometimes i just get the feeling that everything has been said before, everything has been done before, everything that could possibly come into your mind - someone else has already thought about it too ... so i feel a little lost. I mean...the fact that I'm in the 'business' of being creative always makes me try to be original in what i do.
But i wonder: in these days... is there really such thing as originality? Aren't we actually the sum of what has been done before?
Isn't inspiration some sort of copying from others?
Does contemporary art or architecture or literature really bring something completely new? Do you know of such people?

I always (as others) seek inspiration and try to be up to date with everything that comes up in related fields and with such huge amount of information from all around the world just a click away i feel we're being flooded with visuals and ideas...you can find a lot of nice things...but if you google a little more you come across lots of similar pieces...

There are so many trends now ... in design, fashion, photography ... and everybody is trying to be creative but in the same general manner. But who's actually the original one...the one that started the trend??

Well ... i get these thoughts sometimes... but back to where we started: The nice thing is that from time to time i come across things that are simply beautiful and this inspires me to keep on going. And it shuts me up for a while...

I don't know if that states that original beautiful creations are rare or that I'm a manic-depressive...but I'm curious...do you ever think about originality?

here's some more from Tran Nguyen
