bangkok.city.excitement

Good afternoon.... because this is so exciting and awesome I thought it deserved a post immediately.
I woke up this morning to a bbm on my phone from my mom (yes, she is in her room down the passage, but hey!) saying: "are you awake, I have a proposition for you". So I crawl out of bed and mosy on down the passage to her room and I ask "what proposition are you talking about?" Mom replies: "do you want to come with me to Bangkok on Monday?" Kerryn: "YES!! Of course I do, but, who's paying?" mom: "Me, I need the help and you have the time." Kerryn: "Yay! Thats amazing. I'm in!"
So my mom phones the travel agent, and now I am off to Bangkok on Monday with my mom on her buying trip for her shop! How amazing is that, one day you're just chilling, and the next day you off to Bangkok!
My mom goes to Bangkok twice a year and imports clothing for her little (hobbie) shop she has at home. So I will be her helping elf and shopping up a storm for 5 days! Yipee yay....
Here are some of my photos from when I was there in January.

10.things.

1. Spend a night sleeping under the stars, or at least spend a few hours lying under the stars.
2. Tell someone that they are looking beautiful.
3. Delicious French Macarons, beautiful photo and stunning packaging.
4. Watch an old movie that you love, Grease is a goodie. Or The Sound of Music, or Annie or Mary Poppins.
5. Even better, watch an animated move, get in touch with the child in you, these are a few of my favourites.

6. Host a dress up party - it always adds a funny tone to a party.
7. Learn how to speak another language, I am trying Arabic.
8. What a stunning skirt - love this outfit!
9. Instead of buying salad dressing from the supermarket, make you own.
10. Smile

tuesday.architecture.inspiration.

1. Utriai Residence by Architectural Bureau G.Natkevicius & Partners
Built for a family of three, its standout feature is a cantilevered section that doubles as a carport. The design was inspired by Noah's Ark "where the family with all their belongings and animals moved from the city."

2. Cabaña Irma Cabezas by Diego Mendoza Valenzuela
A compact pine wood-clad house in Paine, Chile for an elderly woman who wanted to live alone. The program's focus was simplicity, to reduce to a minimum the movement required to live in the house. Of note, a cathedral ceiling and a large floor to ceiling window in the entrance way.

3. Twin Lofts by Federico Delrosso
A multi-story loft in a former industrial space in Milan combines muted colors (white, grey, natural brown and black) and simple materials (glass, wood and iron).

4. Buser / Chapoton Residence by Mayer Sattler-Smith
A house in Alaska designed for a professional musher (yes, dogsleds!). Oriented to maximize views of the landscape, to the north is Mount Mckinley, or as the locals call it denali which means the high one in Athabaskan. "Some consideration for sustainable design include a heat recovery ventilation system, triple pane glazing and a double furring wall for the exterior walls." Which also happens to help with the energy bill in Alaska.

our.chill.room

Luke and i have created a "chill room" in our Villa; this room is for Luke's music, writing, creating, playing guitar and drums (one day). It is also for sitting, chilling, and to be inspired. We have some really comfortable couches in it, and a small balcony, and the stunning afternoon sun streams in through the windows. This is the beginning of our chill room.....

Choi+Shine Wins BSA Unbuilt Architecture Award For ‘Land of Giants’

Brookline, MA-based Jin Choi & Thomas Shine of Choi+Shine recently received the 2010 Boston Society of Architects Unbuilt Architecture Award for their “Land of Giants” project. The project was originally submitted for an Icelandic pylon competition, where it received an honorable mention. The competition was to find a new typology for Iceland’s high voltage power lines and pylons.
This design transforms mundane electrical pylons into statues on the Icelandic landscape by making only small alterations to existing pylon design.

I think this is incredibly creative and practical design, which brings so much life to a grey Icelandic landscape. Be inspired.
