The Arts of Taiwanese Cultures unfolding
Ms. Li-Jean Lin – A Dancer
We all long for some astonishing moments in our lives – the kind of
astonishments that come from pursuing something that's beyond our means.
Li-Jean loves to dance. She dreams to dance of something unique – she
senses the forms of dance that she desires. That’s why she started Legend
Lin Dance Theatre to cultivate seeds of dancers.
Born in a fisherman’s family in Keelong, in Li-Jean’s sub-conscience,
traditions became the fertilizer of her dance and her motherland became the
source of her creation. Midsummer Festival, __, __, Floating candle lights,
etc. are all carved into a fisherman’s memory and could not be scraped
away; To her, the best inspiration for creation is from her personal
experience that’s embedded in her daily encounters and within her reach.
Hence, a dance on “Festival” (醮), which derives directly from Taiwanese
religions and traditions, reveals people’s respect of the universe with
godly manners and merciful beings grasped attention on international forum
and was inquired to be performed in many major international arts festivals.
It was the first time that a Taiwanese Dancing company was ever invited to
perform in Festival d'Avignon in France; Ms. Lin’s another work “Festival
of Flower Goddess”(花神祭), which praises the immortal virtue of nature’s
re-generating life cycle through meditation on flowers’ blooming and
falling, also reflects Taiwanese traditions and cultures.
“Arts are rooted deeply in the motherland; Dancers should view their bodies
as seeds. They unfold their bodies with all might and all possibilities.
People will be enriched as the time comes right.” she said.
