another birthday girl.

tomorrow is lara's birthday. my nearest and dearest. and so... i'll shout it from the roof tops...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LARA!

lara's my most adventurous, spontaneous friend. when in doubt, call lara. she's in. whether it's a there-and-back-in-one-night trip from rexburg to salt lake for a killer concert or a wild and crazy shopping spree in park city, i can always count on lara for a good fun time.

little known facts about lara:

we talk every night for an hour. at least. sometimes two. sometimes three.
she'll do {just about} anything for a dollar.
she's got killer dance moves. especially in the kitchen.
she's a banana republic lovin' cowgirl at times. a chaco wearing rock climber sometimes, too.
the girl can run. we're talking forrest gump...
when she comes to salt lake, we eat at cafe rio twice a day.
she can ski faster/better than you.
she knows all my secrets. all of them.

happy birthday, dear friend. present's in the mail.

Front Page

While at lunch with my buddy Christopher last week we started talking about websites and stuff. He knows I've been working on mine new one for quite a while. Back in Oct. 08 I purchased the domain www.geekyfanboy.com and wanted to transfer my current personal website from yahoo geocities. Though I'm internet savvy I'm not really good at HTML and decided I would try my hand at Dreamweaver. Well it's been months and I have built a few pages but not like they are suppose to be build. Instead I created them in photoshop and then just import the entire thing as one image. Anyways I was conveying my frustration to Christopher and he mentioned Front Page which is a microsoft program. He said it was fairly easy to use, kind of like page builder from yahoo geocities.

So Today I finally "acquired" a copy and gave it a shot. Well I have to say that Front Page is a website building for dummies and is perfect for me. It's pretty much set up like most of the MS programs. I only had an hour or so to play with it but I already built most of my main page, with Dreamweaver it had taken me weeks. So I'm off to a good start. So it will still take me a while to get everything transferred but at least I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks Christopher for the heads up.

addicted to flying. and babies.

i just booked my flight to denver to see this sweet thing.

and, surprise, surprise... visit this place, too!

march 2

i will have a new roommate. and she is ka-yoot.

she's a transplant from rexburg, so naturally, she's going to be great. plus, she's an interior designer, so she got the pink bathroom thing. wasn't scared at all.

this is fantastic news. for me. and for my mortgage.

the cupcake tour.

co-worker amalia and i had to run a few errands today for some clients. it wasn't quite lunch time, but well past breakfast... and since i was out the door at 6:30 this morning for a dentist appointment, i didn't get any breakfast in me. i had {serious} hungry face.

not sure what sparked it, but we took ourselves on a cupcake tour through the valley. this isn't the first time we've done it... and definitely not the last. but it absolutely confirmed to me that so cupcake is the best cupcake joint in the slc.

top - to - bottom, left - to - right:

key lime - raspberry lemon - another key lime {our fav}

vanilla {other fav} - coconut choc - red velvet with cream cheese

lemon - red velvet with buttercream - mud pie

chocolate chocolate - carrot cake - vanilla with chocolate

we tried diva's cupcakes and coffee too. not so good. the frosting tastes like creamed butter and sugar - ya know... like when you're making cookies... not good.

a couple weeks ago i hit up mini's again. still sticking to my first impression - breakfast at tiffany's is it's only worthwhile cupcake. amazing buttercream... but nothing too stellar. bizarre location, so much potential... but they just need a little aubry magic.

oh... and if you google map "cupcakes near salt lake city", it'll offer you an address for ABCupcakes. DON'T go there. we tried. and this is what we found:

seriously. this is where cupcakes are made.

a SA-WEEEET store.

seems like every time i see a sweet little something... and turn it over to see who made it... it's a chronicle book product.

every single time!

so, today... in a moment of curiousity and weakness... i stopped by. and browsed for a while. and made a killer wish list. too bad it's not birthday time. or christmas time.
there's this:

which comes with 250 of these ka-yoot things:

and this:

ooh, and these:

and i can't leave out all of theeeeeese:

and a million {seriously} other things like iron-on transfers , home-made greeting card kits, and my long time favorite book - listography {your life in lists}.

i could go on and on. the wishlist is a mile long. so, for anyone out there who's stumped as to what to get me *cough* lara* {put $20 in an envelope last year for my birthday and said i was too hard to shop for} cough*... here's your store. i would like one of everything, pretty please.

Dear Blogger dot com

We really, really HATE the new "followers" layout.
The old one was just fine, discreet even, and this new one is hideous, clumsy and doesn't go with the blogger look at all.
Please, please fix this.

Love,

It's a BOY!!!!!!

My brother called me today to inform me that he and my sister-in-law found out the sex of their baby... It's a BOY!!!! I'm going to have a nephew... I would be happy with either I just want a healthy baby.. but I have to admit I was hoping they were having a little boy. Can't wait to spoil him rotten.

Backpiece day at Conspiracy Inc.

First up Tina, who had her first session in a very, very long time.
As you can see, a large part is still not done, but she's pretty tough, so hopefully this piece will be finished in July.

And after her came Morten, who don't technically have a backpiece, more like a large back tattoo, but who cares!
This time they finished all the black, so with the help of some painkillers and Baldrian pills, the next session will hopefully be his last.
Up next, his arms.

More amazing wizards (dragon edition)

I'm seriously obsessed with wizard tattoos. Sorry if you guys are getting sick of them! Here are a bunch with their dragon buddies.

It looks like he's about to pitch all the magic onto his hand that's holding the orb, whereupon it will smash into one million pieces and doom the dragon to an eternity underground without his friends or family.

This dude is NOT HAPPY about the dragon's fiery flames. Not one bit.

Since when are wizards 100x bigger than dragons? I like the lightning bolts though.

"Alright, I want a dungeon. A deep, dark, scary dungeon, with a DRAGON and a huge SPIDER, and a lizard, and cobwebs, and an EVIL PLOTTING WIZARD with another dragon on his shoulder, and a CUTE BLUEBIRD and a HEART with a banner with my girlfriend's name on it and a bunch of FLAMES on the other side and some smoke all around everything. Okay?"

beauty bash.

the most pathetic excuse for a nordstrom is just down the street from my office. its only redeeming factors are being home to the only dior counter in the valley and the world's greatest tomato bisque.

BUT... we've seen a much larger, prettier, glitzier, building slowly make its way up up up right next door. a couple months ago, they hung a banner that made my heart sing.

new nordstrom opening march 6.

and so... march 6 will be my first vacation day of the year. really. beginning with the beauty bash event at 7 am... followed by a complete devouring of the shoe department and the cardigans at brass plum.

this morning, while riding up in the elevator with some co workers, i was talking with my friend dave about carpool next week. it's my week to drive. our convo went a little like this:

dave: "carpool next week? you?"

aubry: "yep, my week. i'm on it. i'm taking friday off, so i'll drive thursday instead."

dave: "sounds good."

evelvator stops. more people get on.

dave: "so what's next friday? i mean, why the day off?"

pause. gathering strength. prepare for the forthcoming ridicule.

aubry: "grand opening of nordstrom. beauty bash event and a day of fun for jen's birthday."

elevator doors open. it's my floor.

dave: "seriously? you're taking a day off to go to the mall?"

(while walking down the hallway, as the elevator doors are closing...) aubry: "it's not just the mall. it's NORDSTROM"

the hartwells made their way to salt lake city yesterday afternoon. i've known these girls since they were little, little, little. can't say that i ever changed their diapers, but i can say that about their 4 other siblings...

that makes for 15 years of {sweet} memories...

... so good to catch up. if only it was a friday night at fashion valley.

glam queen + hot mess + mickey rourke = oscars 09.

so much to say... but no time to say it.

good things pictures speak volumes.

slimy yucky, mucky hair. quit acting so pretty.

what are you, tilda? look like a woman, already. although, anything is an improvement from last year.

taraji - glowing. glowing, glowing, glowing. and so freaking happy. and great hair. best dressed of the night, i vote.

holy sophia loren! she might tie for hot-mess-of-the-night.

open your bloody eyes and look straight into the camera. oh, and wash your hair!

i don't know what to say about this.

male hot mess. dog necklace. puh-lease.

understated... but loved the hints of green jewels.

l-o-v-e-d these jewels. didn't match with the dress. what's the black piping all about? but those jewels.... to die for.

hot mess of the night. looks like an ice princess. and since when did a mother let her {role model} 16 year old wear a plunging neckline like that? red carpet quote: "angelina is my favorite person of all history. she could adopt me."

and, might i add - i NAILED all (but one) of my oscar picks for the night. silly film editing.
all those thursday nights and saturday matinees with miss paid off! this has been one of my favorite years in film. so many good flicks... too many good flicks, really.
